Climate Change...finally it's coming to the forefront of everyday conversation. So what do we do? How can we help save our planet? I find myself saying and thinking this everyday now. The answer? Well just do your part...no guilt if you make some mistakes but we all need to try to do better.
Our generation has done irreparable damage to this beautiful world. I for one feel terrible about the current situation and fear the future from a climate change and environmental standpoint. I launched Tonewood in 2012 to draw attention to the ravaging affects of climate change on maple trees and to spread some maple love. Now I feel the need to 'up the ante'.
I hope to help myself and thereby help others to learn more about what we can do to save our trees, nature and the environment...to save our planet. I hope to do this by learning more about global climate change efforts and to share my learning. We need to change consumer thinking and behavior as it relates to becoming more environmentally conscientious. It's happened in the past...remember showing up to the grocery store without bringing your own bags? We need to bring our own bags, recycle, reuse, repurpose, compost, reduce or eliminate single-use products, drive less, ride your bike more, eat less meat... We need to lobby our governments and big business. Will we make mistakes? Yes but the more we all try to do our part...maybe, just maybe, we can stall or reverse the damage we have done to our planet.
I just discovered a non-partisan group; the Citizens' Climate Lobby. There are chapters throughout the USA, Canada and the world. No matter where you live, climate change is a global issue. I approach climate change from a North American perspective as I'm Canadian but I have three American children (all born in Boston). So regardless of where you live or your nationality...we all need to protect our planet.
If you'd like to learn more about Citizens' Climate Lobby check out their website:
This brief video from the Canadian chapter sums up their efforts quite nicely. Watch here:
I am personally trying to read and learn about what I can do and hope to share my learning as I come across more compelling efforts to save our planet!
More to come as we all try to do our part.
